I have connected with many ICT communities like Telstra, Optus , Accenture etc, Public sector organisation like the ATO ( Australian Tax office) and Federal Police. while I have also connect with the organisations who are involved in professional consultancy like PWC, KPMG, EY, and Deloitte.
Reasons for me to connect with these communities since all these potential employers have many things common to my interests and all require a Cyber security professionals. Eg the Telco companies like Telstra and Optus would like a Cyber security analyst as part of their business development team who sells service to potential customers where as , some could defend the attacks on telstra while others would help to create new cyber security service/ products.
If we focus on the public sector the amount of data which they withhold is enormous thus in order to make sure their systems are secure they employ cyber security professionals . While employers like the ASIO( Australian secret intelligence service ) and Federal police employee cyber security professionals to help them investigate cyber crime , secure their system and conduct intelligence operation in order to secure the national interests.
This that I have learnt from a prospective employer’s profile site is that most of the potentials employees should have some set of technical and soft skills which is required by the employer in order to meets their business objectives.
For example a cyber security Lead analyst should acquire critical thinking skills , whilst a cyber security policy maker should understand the fundamentals of IT security thus also should have sound communication and policy making skills .
Communities like internships search help me in order to help me find and secure an internship experience employment based communities express their internship and graduate employment positions and applications and showcases about the company . Whilst communities like faculty websites would help the students to get important information and work placement information.
